Litmus vs Email on Acid vs KLinh Preflight: An Honest Comparison

November 3, 2026 · 15 min read · Comparison · Litmus · Email on Acid

Choosing an email testing tool is mostly a question of fit. Litmus and Email on Acid are established full-suite platforms. KLinh Preflight is a newer, lighter pre-flight linter. They overlap, but they solve the problem in different ways.

This comparison is written by the team behind KLinh Preflight, so we have tried hard to be fair — including about where our own product falls short. Features and pricing for any product change over time, so confirm details on each vendor's website before you decide.

The short version

  • Choose Litmus if you want a mature, all-in-one platform with real-client screenshots, a builder, collaboration and analytics, and your budget fits enterprise pricing.
  • Choose Email on Acid if you want strong real-client screenshot coverage and a pre-send checklist, and prefer its interface or pricing structure.
  • Choose KLinh Preflight if you are a developer, freelancer, agency or small team that wants instant, line-level feedback, platform-aware checks for Salesforce or Adobe, and simple approvals — at a small-team price.
  • Combine them if you want speed during development and screenshots for final checks on big sends.

How each tool renders your email

This is the most important difference.

Litmus and Email on Acid generate screenshots from real email client environments. When you see Outlook 2019 on Windows, you are looking at what that client actually rendered. This is the gold standard for confirming exactly how an email will look.

KLinh Preflight does not use real devices. It analyzes your HTML and shows a live preview in your browser, plus labeled simulations of how certain clients behave — for example, an Outlook simulation that removes the CSS Outlook desktop ignores. These are approximations, and the app says so.

Why take that approach? Because most rendering bugs are predictable, and a linter catches them instantly, explains them, and links them to the line. You trade pixel-exact certainty for speed and diagnosis.

Speed and developer experience

For developers, the inner loop matters most: change, check, repeat. A screenshot run might take long enough that you context-switch. KLinh Preflight re-audits about a quarter of a second after you stop typing, so the findings list behaves like a spell-checker for email HTML.

Clicking a finding jumps to the line in the code and highlights the matching element in the preview. Common fixes — adding alt text, a language attribute, or explicit widths — can be applied with one click after you review the exact before-and-after change. Every fix can be undone.

Platform support: Salesforce and Adobe

Enterprise email often runs on Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Adobe Campaign, and their template languages are a common source of send-day mistakes.

In KLinh Preflight you can switch the platform profile:

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud: AMPscript blocks are understood rather than treated as broken HTML. The checker flags unclosed blocks, IF without ENDIF, missing THEN, unknown functions, unbalanced quotes or brackets, and variables used before they are set. It also checks for the SFMC unsubscribe and address tags.
  • Adobe Campaign: checks for unclosed tags, unbalanced braces, missing fallbacks and the unsubscribe include.

A mock data panel lets you fill in subscriber fields and watch personalization render in the preview. A clean export minifies the HTML while keeping script blocks intact.

Litmus and Email on Acid can render the output of these platforms once personalization has been resolved, but platform-specific syntax checking is not their main focus.

Collaboration and approvals

All three tools support some form of review.

KLinh Preflight keeps it simple: a six-item sign-off checklist (copy, links, personalization, legal, client checks, brand approval), threaded comments that can reference a code line, a PDF review report and a share link you can email to your team or client. Opening the link shows the findings, checklist and comments, with a PDF download — no account needed.

Full-suite tools offer deeper collaboration features suited to larger organizations.

Accessibility

Accessibility in email is often reduced to "add alt text". KLinh Preflight checks more:

  • images without alt text, or with unhelpful alt text like a file name
  • heading levels that skip (for example h1 to h3)
  • links with no accessible name or vague labels like "click here"
  • text whose color contrast falls below WCAG AA thresholds, accounting for inherited colors and large text

It also includes color vision deficiency filters — protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia and grayscale — so you can see how your design reads for people with different color vision.

Security, privacy and enterprise requirements

Large organizations often need single sign-on, formal security certifications and audit logs. Established platforms are better placed to meet those requirements today. KLinh Preflight runs its audits in your browser; your HTML only leaves the browser when you choose AI explain, and share links store the findings, checklist and comments rather than your code. If your procurement process requires specific certifications, check that before choosing any tool.

Pricing approach

Full-suite platforms are priced for professional and enterprise teams; check their current pages for details. KLinh Preflight has a free tier with no sign-up, a $19/month Pro Solo plan and a $49/month Agency plan. See pricing.
